Spiral has developed a new type of optical surface in collaboration with researchers from the French Laboratory of Photonics, Numerical and Nanosciences (LP2N – Institut d’Optique, CNRS, University of Bordeaux). This innovative surface, called a “spiral diopter,” was measured and evaluated by the research team.
The spiral structure of the lens, conceived by optical designer Laurent Galinier, creates multiple focal zones through the generation of optical vortices — a physical phenomenon that “twists” light into a spiral shape. This controlled twisting changes how light focuses on the retina, enabling sharp vision at different distances within a single optical element.
